FAQs
What is home infusion therapy?
Home infusion therapy involves the intravenous administration of drugs or biologicals to an individual at home. Our contracted Kaiser Permanente infusion services providers deliver infusion therapy services to our members twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. These providers initiate infusion services within four (4) hours from the time of receipt of the order.
Is home infusion therapy safe?
Home infusion has been proven to be a safe and effective alternative to inpatient care for many disease states and therapies. A full patient and home assessment are performed before initiating infusion therapy at home to ensure that the patient is a suitable candidate for home care.
Note: A registered infusion nurse will supervise and monitor the patient for the course of the infusion administration.
How do I know if my patient is a good candidate for home infusion?

- Being accessible to 911 services and urgent care,
- Having adequate refrigeration, running water, electricity, telephone access,
- Meeting general cleanliness standards.
- The member is medically stable and able to participate in their care, and
- The member has reliable venous access.
